Deputy Tom Lange was stopped along the side of the interstate, warning drivers of a disabled van on the side of the road ahead. The driver of a tanker truck, Michael Brunner, tried to change lanes to avoid Lange's cruiser, but instead jackknifed and hit the cruiser.
