Rhode Island: Intoxicated man charged after ramming fire truck
Rhode Island Fire
State Police arrested a Providence man for driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs after striking a Pawtucket fire truck that was rendering aid at a car crash crash on Rte. 95 north in Pawtucket Saturday. At around 7:50 a.m., troopers were called to respond to a crash north of Exit 29 in Pawtucket. While responding, troopers learned that the fire truck was struck in the rear at the Broadway overpass. The investigation revealed that a 26-year-old Providence man, Jeremy Ramirez, of 36 King Phillip St., was operating recklessly on Rte. 95 north when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a five-axle fuel truck. The vehicle then traveled into the right breakdown lane striking a concrete barrier before striking the rear of the Pawtucket fire truck.
Ramirez showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody and transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Police said he was loud and hostile at the scene as well as in the emergency room. He was released from the hospital after being treated and providing a blood sample for testing, the results of which are pending.
