  • Maryland Good Samaritan Dies in 35-foot Highway Fall in Connecticut October 8, 2012 · Maryland Other

    Connecticut State Police say an 83-year-old Maryland man fell 35 feet off an elevated highway and died while trying to help a driver whose SUV had rolled over. Troopers say Richard Herron, of Elkton, Md., jumped over the center median of I-84 in Hartford early this morning to avoid a tractor-trailer that was nearing the accident scene. Police say Herron probably didn’t realize there was a large drop. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

    Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Bialzcak was airlifted to the hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in Palm Beach County, but luckily does not have life threatening injuries. Deputy Bialzcak was on his way to work when he stopped to help a driver who had been involved in an accident in the southbound lanes of I-95 near 6th Avenue. The deputy was out of his vehicle when he was struck, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
